MANHATTAN — A pedestrian in Washington Heights was clinging to life Saturday afternoon when a car knocked him down at Riverside Drive and West 157th Street, authorities said.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was struck by a black Chrysler on Riverside Drive around 4:40 p.m. and suffered a life-threatening head injury, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The impact caused damage to the grill and the car's windshield was smashed in.

The man was transported to St. Luke’s hospital by emergency crews.
