RYE, N.Y. — Hundreds of mourners attended a wake for a budding financial analyst killed by a subway train in Manhattan over the weekend.

Michael Ice, 22, of Rye, N.Y., was struck and killed while walking on the southbound 6 train tracks at the Spring Street station early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The Rye High School alumnus and University of Richmond graduate had recently taken a job as a financial analyst for Merill Lynch and was an avid surfer and basketball player, his father explained.

On Tuesday, the line outside the Graham Funeral Home stretched out the door and down the block for several hours as mourners came to pay their respects.

The mood was solemn as Ice’s family, friends and coworkers arrived at the wake, some with tears in their eyes before entering the funeral home.

“Though he was smart, diligent and accomplished, his family and friends remember him most for his character, which he demonstrated time and again with his caring personality,” a note on the funeral home’s website read.

He leaves behind his mother and father, three sisters and a brother.

It is not clear why Ice was on the train tracks, but his father Michael Ice. Sr. believes he was searching for a lost cell phone when he was struck by the train.

"You couldn’t have a happier kid," the father told DNAinfo, describing his son as a hardworking, caring and fun young man who put in long days at work.

"You couldn't have a more perfect story to have a tragic ending."

Ice’s funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Post Road, Rye, N.Y.
