Police Hunting Sex Assault Suspect Wanted for Fondling Woman in Gramercy

By Patrick Hedlund | February 23, 2012 4:17pm

MANHATTAN — Police are hunting a man wanted for sexual assault after he lifted up a woman’s skirt and fondled her inside the lobby of a building in Gramercy last month.

The suspect followed the 30-year-old woman into a building at East 18th Street and Irving Place about 11:35 a.m. on Jan. 6, raised her skirt and touched her buttocks while she was waiting for the elevator, NYPD officials said.

Surveillance footage caught the attacker in the act, showing him bolting from the lobby immediately after the incident, police said.

The victim turned down medical attention following the attack, police said.

The suspect is described as a man between 25 and 30 years old, police added.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
