BRONX — An off-duty NYPD sergeant was arrested and suspended after refusing to take a Breathalyzer test following an accident in Melrose, police said Monday.

Kwando Karikari-Awere, 38, was arrested after getting into an accident Sunday at 8:40 p.m. at East 150th Street and Morris Avenue.

Police did not provide details about the accident, but said no one was injured in the crash.

Karikari-Awere, however, refused to take the Breathalyzer when cops arrived. He was charged with refusing to take a breath test.
