Madonna Strikes a Pose and M.I.A. Gives the Finger in Super Bowl Show
MANHATTAN — The Material Girl gave the crowd her all, and M.I.A. gave them the finger.
An injury-plagued Madonna wowed the sold-out Super Bowl crowd in Indianapolis with a star-studded performance that included classics and cameos from R&B's hottest stars — including M.I.A. who flashed her middle finger.
Madge kicked off the festivities with a Gladiator-themed performance of "Vogue," donning a giant gold headpiece and a gold warrior-style skirt.
Then she changed into a black mini-skirt for a rendition of "Music," complete with an interlude from LMFAO and their ubiquitous "Party Rock Anthem."
At one point during the show, she stumbled slightly when she tried to hop back up onto the set, designed like bleachers at at a football game.
But Madonna, who had been battling a pulled hamstring, pulled through, dancing and singing with Cee Lo Green and rappers Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
At one point during "Give Me Your Luvin," M.I.A. briefly flashed her middle finger to the crowd.
NBC, which broadcast the show, later apologized for the gesture, according to Reuters.
"We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime," said NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey. "It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."
Madonna finished off the set with a rousing rendition of "Like a Prayer," complete with a chorus.
