MANHATTAN — He missed the Mark.

Mark Wahlberg apologized Wednesday for saying that if he were on one of the hijacked planes on 9/11, he would have been beaten the hijackers.

"To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible," Wahlberg told TMZ.

The apology came hours after Men's Journal released excerpts of an interview in which Wahlberg said he'd been booked on one of the flights that crashed into the World Trade Center.

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," Wahlberg said. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

The comment immediately drew criticism from 9/11 survivors. One widow told TMZ that Wahlberg, star of the new movie "Contraband," was being "disrespectful" and was "grandstanding." Wahlberg, who stars in the new movie "Contraband," responded: "I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."
