BRONX — A defective boiler set off a carbon monoxide scare in a Bronx arpartment building Tuesday

Emergency officials said 18 people, including at least six children, were hospitalized after the boiler set off a carbon monoxide scare in a West Farms apartment building, emergency officials said.

A carbon monoxide alarm at 1531 Vyse Ave. went off around 2 a.m., paramedics at the scene said.

Lillian Rodriguez, who has lived on the first floor of the building for more than 20 years, said she was one of the first to escape.

“It was petrifying,” she said. “Can you imagine me coming home and trying to wake up my daughter? I don’t even want to think about it?”

Residents were allowed back into three-floor walk up, but were evacuated again at 6 a.m. when the alarm was re-activated. Residents said they thought somebody had turned the boiler back on.

Paramedics took the victims to Jacobi Medical Center, an FDNY official said. None of the injuries were considered serious.

The scene was under control about 10:30 a.m., but a mechanic was still on site working on the boiler, the fire official said.
