MANHATTAN — Opera-goers got more than they bargained for on Saturday night, after mezzo-soprano Wendy White took an eight foot tumble from the stage at the Metropolitan Opera, halting a performance of Charles Gounod's "Faust" for about half an hour, the New York Times reported.

The operahouse told the paper that a hinge on the elevated platform the singer was climbing broke during the opera's third act, leading to the fall.

White was examined by the Met's in-house doctor before being transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition but undergoing tests on Sunday.

In a video posted on YouTube, opera staff can be seen making several announcements after a call is made for the curtain to come down.

In the third announcement, the staffer says that White had sustained a fall and was OK, which was met by a round of applause.

According to her website, White has appeared in more than 400 productions at the venerable opera house.
