LOWER MANHATTAN — A popular TriBeCa restaurant was slammed with dozens of health violation points after inspectors found mice and other unsanitary conditions earlier this month.

Edward's, a relaxed bistro at 136 W. Broadway, also held cold and hot food at unsafe temperatures, cross-contaminated raw or prepared food, and did not properly sanitize surfaces that came in contact with food, Health Department inspectors found during a Dec. 2 visit.

The restaurant received a total of 62 violation points, well above the threshold of 27 required to earn a "C" grade from the Health Department.

Other violations included not protecting food from contamination, not sanitizing wiping cloths and using a facility that is not vermin-proof.

Edward's received just 9 violation points during an inspection in August, but the city found evidence of mice then as well. After its most recent inspection, the eatery can be re-inspected until it improves or the city moves to close it.

The restaurant, which serves local workers at lunch and neighborhood regulars at night, is a more casual spinoff of the Odeon just across the street. It offers a range of entrees priced from $15 to $29, including blackened salmon with asparagus and herb risotto, and a grilled sirloin steak with French fries.

A manager at Edward's declined to comment on a recent afternoon.

Other lower Manhattan restaurants that recently scored poorly on their health inspections include Viet Cafe, a Vietnamese restaurant at 345 Greenwich St., which received 42 points for violations including food held at unsafe temperatures, and Asian Fusion on Stone, at 11 Stone St., which received 46 points for violations including evidence of mice and live roaches.

Two fast-food Chinese restaurants also netted a slew of violations: Yip's Oriental Express, 136 William St., received 37 points for issues including food workers not washing their hands, and Ho Yip Restaurant, 110 Liberty St., received 33 points for flies and food held at unsafe temperatures.

Inspectors also visited the Iron Horse, a bar with burger and beer specials at 32 Cliff St., last week and gave it 38 violation points after finding unwashed surfaces and evidence of mice.

Meanwhile, the Citigroup Executive Dining Room, at 388 Greenwich St., was the only Downtown eatery to receive a perfect score on its health inspection last week.
