'Santa Paws' Coming to Visit Dogs and Kids in Inwood

By Carla Zanoni | December 8, 2011 5:07pm

INWOOD — Santa Claus is making an early stop uptown as he prepares to greet puppies, parents and kids as the dog-loving group Inwoof plans to host its annual "Santa Paws" event in Inwood Hill Park.

Each year dog owners and their pets are invited to sit with Santa to enjoy a little pre-holiday cheer at Homer's Run in the park.

This year, the event will be held outside the run so as to make more room for kids and families to bend Santa’s ear.

“We want to open this event to the whole community where we live,” said Catherine Campbell, the group’s vice president while at the dog run with her pooch Grover.

Inwoof elves will take high-resolution photos of visitors as they sit with Santa. The photos will be available to download online after the event from the group's Flickr account

The event is free, but donations to benefit the dog run are welcome.

"Santa Paws" will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. in the rotunda beside Homer’s Run near the Seaman Avenue and Isham Street entrance to Inwood Hill Park. The rain date is Dec. 11 from noon to 1 p.m.
