MANHATTAN — A man was shot to death on his birthday outside of his Harlem home as his family prepared a celebratory dinner inside, police sources said.

Reggie Andrews, 22, was found shot in the head at 4:40 p.m. at 111th Street and Lenox Avenue around 4:40 p.m., police said.

He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"He was very funny — talked to everybody. He was a good-looking dude, a girls' man," said a neighbor, Susan, who did not give her last name.

The victim's family was preparing a birthday dinner for him when he was shot.

"We were supposed to go to Club 28," said Tryon White, 27, a cousin. "My little brother called to say my little cousin was laid out in the street."

Steven Smith, 19, a friend of the victim's from PS 113, said that he heard gunfire before discovering that Andrews had been hit.

"I was at my house when I heard three shots go off," he said. "A couple if minutes later I heard it was him. "

And neighbor Kelly Johnson, 32, said she went downstairs after the shots rang out.

"When I got down, he was lying there," she said. "We all were pretty scared and upset. We already knew it was him because they were calling his name."

Sources said that Andrews had an arrest record, primarily for drugs.

A memorial of candles and baseball caps, which he frequently wore, was set up at the scene of the crime.

No arrests have been made.
