A fire destroyed a Meatpacking District basement Wednesday, just a day after the FDNY was called to check an electrical problem.
The blaze at the empty five-story building at 408 West 15th St. started at 7:14 a.m.
The FDNY had to rip out the basement ceiling before they could get it under control, said Fire Chief Patrick Sheridan.
Sheridan confirmed that a crew had been called on Tuesday to check an electrical problem at the building, which has been empty for years but which had a sign in a window Wednesday offering apartments for rent. It's unknown what caused Wednesday's fire.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, the FDNY said.
