MANHATTAN — A giant Star Wars-style lightsaber battle is coming to Washington Square Park Saturday night, according to the website of the group hosting it.

Newmindspace — which threw a 1,000-person pillow fight in Washington Square Park in April and a "bubble battle" on Coney Island in June — is organizing "the ultimate nocturnal showdown," according to their Facebook page.

"Join us for a massive battle of Jedi vs. Sith in downtown New York City. Pick a side of the Force and use that venerable, ancient, glowing tool: the lightsaber," the page says.

More than 1,300 people have written on Facebook that they will attend the free event, which is scheduled to run from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

"And so the force has called upon me to serve," one man who will attend wrote. "I will rise up with pride, hold my light saber in the air, and swing it wildly upon unsuspecting Jedi for I am Sith."

Newmindspace recommends that lightsaber warriors swing lightly, avoid hitting people in the face and wear goggles to protect their eyes.
