MANHATTAN — Things turned serious this week for "Late Show" funnyman David Letterman.
The host of CBS's late night talk show, which films on Broadway at West 53rd Street, was targeted in a call for violence on the jihadi internet forum Shumoukh Al-Islam, according to a translation on The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) website.
A post to the site by user "Omar Al-Basrawi" called on American Muslims to "chop off" Letterman's tongue for mocking jihadi leaders, MEMRI reported.
"I have seen with my eyes and heard with my ears one of the scum of the Jews, one of their pigs, mocking the leaders of the mujahideen," the translation read. "It is the hateful David Letterman, an American Zionist, who hosts a comedy show called 'The Late Show with David Letterman.'"
The post, uploaded on Aug. 17, 2011, was titled, "To the Muslims in America – Isn't There a Sayyid Nosair among You to Chop Off the Tongue of this Hateful Jew?" according to MEMRI. Sayyid Nosair was convicted of involvement in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
A spokeswoman for the FBI's New York field office said they were "aware of the issue and we are looking into it."
