MANHATTAN — The Battery Dance Company kicked off its annual Downtown Dance Festival over the weekend, marking the 30th anniversary for the city's longest-running free public dance festival.

The event features eight days worth of performances from local and international dance companies including Poland's Silesian Dance Theatre and Sutra Dance Theatre from Malaysia.

Several of the festival's New York City-based veterans, including Balam Dance Theatre, Ballets with a Twist, Dancewave, and Jamal Jackson Dance Company will also perform. Lydia Johnson Dance and Murray Spalding are also on deck to perform.

In addition to the performances, the festival will host master classes and workshops taught by dancers from the Martha Graham Company, Lar Lubovitch, Sutra Dance Theatre and others.

Classes run between $20 and $45 and are first-come first-serve.

The festival will be held at The Lawn at Battery Park, One New York Plaza and Dance New Amsterdam at 280 Broadway, near Chambers Street.

Several of the outdoor performances had to be rescheduled due to rain, so check online for the revised calendar.
