WEST VILLAGE — A man tried to rob a Greenwich Village bank, but fled empty-handed, police said.

The unidentified suspect, captured on surveillance tape at the Bank of America at 244 W. 4th St., allegedly gave the teller a demand note at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

But for unknown reasons, he fled from the bank without any cash. The teller was uninjured in the attempt, the department said.

The suspect is described as being in his 30s with a dark complexion, bald head and goatee. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Sixth Precinct police are encouraging the public to send their tips to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, online at www.crimestoppers.com or by texting 274637(CRIMES) then entering TIP577. All calls are confidential.
