Wednesday August 3

Jimmy Webb - the only artist to ever receive Grammy Awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration - plays the classy old-school Feinstein's at the Regency, 540 Park Avenue. Hear the classics "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," and maybe even "MacArthur Park" from the living legend that wrote them.

Also tonight: Fountains of Wayne & Nicole Atkins (see August 4) at the Bowery Ballroom.
NY-born, but Brazilian-raised, soulful boss nova singer Bebel Gilberto kicks off her summer residency tonight  with Brazilian rapper Marcelo D2 at City Winery

Thursday August 4

Indian legend Malkit Singh and Dengue Fever make for a very interesting pairing at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival. Singh's Punjabi pop is suitably flamboyant and very catchy, while Dengue Fever specialises in rootsy psychedelic rock infused with Cambodian influences & Khmer lyrics. Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center W 62nd St.

Also playing tonight: Honeyed harmonies and raw country-infused rock 'n' roll from the Sweetback Singers at Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen St, between Houston & Stanton

Friday August 5

Indie power-poppers Fountains of Wayne (remember their hits "Radiation Vibe" and "Stacey's Mom?") play a rare acoustic set which will also no doubt feature tracks from their new album "Sky Full Of Holes," alongside Nicole Atkins, whose powerful songs are reminiscent of Stevie Nicks, Chrissie Hynde and Siouxsie Sioux. At the City Winery

Saturday August  6

Singer, songwriter and bassist Meshell Ndegeocello salutes the genius of Gil Scott-Heron with a night of his songs. Blue Note, 131 W 3rd St (at Sixth Ave)

Sunday August 7: PICK OF THE WEEK

For a few months each year New Yorkers can bask in summer sun and forget that those November to February months exist. What better way to enjoy the heat than a free outdoor concert in Central Park? Featuring Friendly Fires, The Naked and Famous, and Cults at Central Park Summerstage, 3pm. All Ages.

This week's Pick of The Week was selected by Michaella Solar-March, a Sydney girl who lives and works in New York. She has recently joined promoters Splendid Communications following a stint at record label Beggars Group, home of The Horrors and Vampire Weekend. She tweets at: Michaella_SM

Also tonight: Punk stalwarts Mission of Burma play Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club, 3 p.m., and smooth six-string legend Joe Diorio and special guests Pat Martino, Jimmy Bruno, Vic Juris & Paul Bollenback ignite Birdland with tasteful and innovative jazz stylings.

Monday August 8

Cool UK-USA duo (Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince) The Kills play catchy but muscular rootsy rock. Their fourth album since 2003, "Blood Pressures," is getting deservedly great reviews. The bill also  features two great New York bands - indie poppers Pains of Being Pure at Heart,  and noisy three piece A Place To Bury Strangers, Terminal 5, 610 W 56 St

Also tonight: Country-infused Rhode Islanders Deer Tick play a free outdoor show
at Hudson River Rocks, Pier 54, West St at 13th street.

Tuesday August  9

Sometime Kanye West collaborator Justin Vernon's band Bon Iver hits Washington Heights with the rapidly rising indie rock duo from Raleigh, North Carolina, The Rosebuds.  Bon Iver's latest self-titled album has been a top-ten smash in the US and UK.  United Palace Theatre, 4140 Broadway (at 175th St)

Also tonight: The Horrors at The Studio, Webster Hall. To celebrate the release of their gorgeous new Summer album Skyling, UK band The Horrors perform an intimate show at The Studio filmed by MTV.
