GRAMERCY — The 13th Police Precinct’s Community Council and Office of Community Affairs will host an outdoor festival Tuesday as part of the 28th annual National Night Out, a nationwide effort that seeks to promote crime prevention in local communities.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the M.S.104 playground on 20th Street and Second Avenue.

A flier circulating about the event promises food, music and children’s entertainment, such as clowns and caricaturists. The event will also provide safety and health information and free gifts.

This year is expected to be the largest ever for National Night Out, with more than 15,500 communities hosting events across the country on Tuesday, according to the National Night Out website.

The program was created by the National Association of Town Watch in 1984 to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts.

The 13th Precinct covers the Peter Cooper/Stuyvesant Town residential complex and Gramercy Park.
