MANHATTAN — Cab drivers rallied in front of the Taxi and Limousine Commission Wednesday to demand an increase in fares to make up for increasing fuel costs, NY1 reported.
Representatives with the Taxi Workers Alliance pointed out that the last fare hike in 2004 did not account for current fuel prices and living expenses, according to NY1.
Under the drivers' plan, the per mile fare would increase from $2 to $2.50, idling wait times would go from $0.40 to $0.50 and flat fares for rides to JFK Airport would rise to $55 from the current $45, the news channel reported.
David Yassky, head of the TLC, said he would consider the drivers' request, the station reported.
