GOVERNORS ISLAND — The stray cat that washed up on Governors Island last week is meowing her way into the hearts of everyone she meets — on Twitter.

The pun-loving @GovsIslandCat account has been describing the friendly calico's moods and adventures since last Friday, a few days after the cat was found hungry and covered in seaweed near the island's ferry docks.

"Before I came to Govenors Island, my life was a cat-astrophe," @GovsIslandCat wrote on Friday. "Now I'm in kitty heaven!"

The tweeting cat has mentioned her food preferences — Meow Mix over Fancy Feast — and gave her thoughts on felines' mortal enemies: "Cats rule, dogs drool! Meow!"

@GovsIslandCat also expressed her gratitude to the Trust for Governors Island for helping to find a good name for her. The Trust has received hundreds of suggestions and will put a few finalists to a public vote early this week, a spokeswoman said.

The Trust has heard from many people who lost their cats and think the Governors Island stray might be theirs. Governors Island staff will check each of the claims to see if they can reunite the cat with her owner, a spokeswoman said.

So far, the @GovsIslandCat feed has just a couple dozen followers. But she seems to be following in the slithering footsteps of the missing Bronx Zoo cobra, whose spoof @BronxZoosCobra account netted more than 242,000 followers and captured New Yorkers' imaginations while the venomous snake was at large.
