MANHATTAN — An apparently suicidal NYU student set fire to his eighth-floor dorm room at Brittany Residence Hall on East 10th Street Saturday, Washington Square News reported.

The unidentified student was taken to Bellevue Hospital with non life-threatening self-inflicted wounds, the student newspaper reported.

No one else was hurt in the incident and the fire was put out before fire crews arrived to the building at 55 E. 10th St. between University Place and Broadway, according to the paper.

Officials with the University would not comment on the student but told the Washington Square News that damage to the dorm room was minimal.
