Athleta to Open First New York Store on Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE — A California-based women's workout wear company is opening its first New York store on the Upper West Side, Crain's reported.

Athleta, which sells women's clothing for running, surfing, hiking and other outdoorsy pursuits, plans to open this fall at 216 Columbus Avenue near West 70th Street, where the Lucky Brand Jeans store closed recently, according to Crain's.

Athleta, which is owned by Gap, Inc., previously only sold apparel through a website and catalog. The company opened its first store in San Francisco earlier this year, the New York Times reported.
