MANHATTAN — New Yorkers get to shed a few layers Monday with temperatures expected to hit 77 degrees after almost a month of rainy and chilly weather.

Spring will finally begin to feel like spring as scattered morning showers give way to sunnier skies about lunchtime when temperatures are forecast to rise into the 70s. Some Manhattanites were pleasantly surprised Monday with morning temperatures already in the high 50s.

The warmth is anticipated to last well into the evening, only dropping to the high 60's as late as 9 pm, according to Accuweather.

The good news won't last long, however. Over an inch of rain is expected to fall starting early Tuesday morning as scattered thunderstorms are expected to last well into Wednesday.

Tuesday's rain will bring back temperatures as low as the mid-40s, forecasters said, but Monday's warm-up is a gentle reminder that warmer days are just around the corner.
