MANHATTAN — Rumors swirled Monday that the Hotel Chelsea had found a new owner in Tristar Capital, but the hotel's publicist denied Tuesday that a deal has been struck.
A report on Ed Hamilton's "Living with Legends" Hotel Chelsea Blog claimed Monday that Tristar head David Edelstein had bought the 129-year-old hotel, at a cost significantly below the hotel's asking price.
"What he wrote isn't true," said hotel publicist Loren Riegelhaupt of SDK Knickerbocker.
Riegelhaupt declined to comment on which buyers are still in the race for the hotel, which was once home to an array of writers, artists and musicians — including Bob Dylan, Arthur Miller and Eugene O'Neill.
Negotiations are ongoing, according to Reigelhaupt.
Other parties rumored to be interested in the 12-story hotel include Andre Balazs of The Standard and former manager Stanley Bard.
Until a buyer reaches an agreement, longtime Hotel Chelsea residents face an uncertain future.
