Midtown Pub Evacuated After Wall Cracks

MIDTOWN — A Midtown bar was evacuated after a wall being renovated in an adjoining building cracked, a fire department official said.

More than 20 people spilled out of the Blarney Rock Pub, located on West 33rd Street between Seventh and Sixth avenues, around 4:30 p.m. as a precaution when a wall in the restaurant Salt and Pepper was damaged, according to FDNY battalion chief Chris Boyle.

"I really want a night off, but I don't want them to tear the building down," said Blarney Rock Pub bartender James Donovan, 47.

There were no reported injuries, according to the FDNY.

The bar may be closed for a day or two, according to Boyle.

Traffic was briefly shut down on West 33rd Street while the fire department responded to the incident, but was opened up by 5:30 p.m.

139 West 33rd Street, which houses Salt and Pepper, recieved a complaint for cracks found on the ground floor wall, according to the Department of Buildings.

The complaint listed concerns that the structural stability of the building.

A complaint at 137 West 33rd Street was filed for a cracked facade.
