MANHATTAN — The Apple iPad 2 is sold out in stores across the city.

The new iPad, which sold out quickly when it was released at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 11, was still unavailable at Apple stores in SoHo and the Meatpacking District on Monday, leaving some New Yorkers disappointed.

"I wanted to get it before I leave town in three days, but it looks like I'll have to order it online," said Tom, 45, of the Upper East Side, who stopped by the SoHo Apple store at 103 Prince Street to check if the gadget was in stock. He had already checked the Meatpacking and Upper East Side stores, but they were also sold out of the device on Monday.

Those who do choose to buy the device online will have to wait three to four weeks for delivery, according to the company's website.

"I'm deeply frustrated," said Norbert Gundlach, 57, who was visiting from northern Germany. He has been trying unsuccessfully for the past couple of days to snatch an iPad 2 before he goes home on Saturday, because the devices won't be released in Europe until March 25.

The arrival of the new iPad caused long lines throughout the city, and according to reports, led some enterprising individuals to make some fast cash, including 20-year-old Amanda Foote, who sold her coveted spot in line at the Fifth Avenue Apple store for $900.

Some Apple stores received another shipment of the devices on Saturday, March 12, but quickly sold out of those as well.

One SoHo resident who tried to purchase an iPad 2 at the Prince Street store on Monday wasn't bothered by the wait.

"It's not really gonna change my life if I have to wait a few weeks for a product," said Monica Lamba, 34.

Store employees encourage would-be buyers to keep calling the stores early in the mornings to check to see if shipments have come in.

Jamie Rubin, 35, stopped by the Apple Meatpacking District store at 401 West 14th St. on Monday. He stood in line for five hours at the store on Friday to purchase an iPad 2, and was glad he waited in the cold to snag one.

"It was worth it," Rubin said. "And I'm not one of those frustrated people because I don't have one now."
