MANHATTAN — A fire broke out inside a trash compactor at a Harlem apartment building Wednesday night, leaving three residents with minor injuries, FDNY officials said.

The fire broke out shortly after 11 p.m. and was out within the half hour, officials said. It was contained to the trash compactor on the fifth floor of 52 West 111th Street.

The injured residents suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries, but refused medical treatment, an FDNY spokesman said.
