MANHATTAN — Tourists were prevented from coming into contact with the huggable Times Square sheep during their final day on display in the Great White Way.

Black metal gates, which had been used to protect the paper mache sculptures overnight, surrounded "Counting Sheep" installation around 11:30 a.m. Monday, the final day of the installation's weeklong run in connection with the Armory art show.

One of the handcrafted sheep, created by artist Kyu Seok Oh over the course of 10 months, was damaged last week after it was kicked it in the head.

Times Square Alliance spokesman, Eddie Borges, said the gates were not a response to the sheep attack, but rather to a weekend of heavy rain, which left the sheep in a fragile state.

Oh said last week that he hoped to sell the popular sheep sculptures at the end of their stay in Times Square.
