MANHATTAN — Federal agents busted a huge drug den being run out of a tony Upper West Side apartment during a raid Friday, sources told the New York Post.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents swooped on the building, near the intersection of W. 87th St. and West End Avenue,  as part of a national operation called Operation Bombardier. It targets Mexican drug bandits, sources told the Post.

Agents arrested 31-year-old Washington Heights resident Edwin Diaz and recovered six kilos of powder and crack cocaine, along with hundreds of oxycodone pills, the Post reported.

They also confiscated three loaded semi-automatic handguns, ledger books, documents and cash, according to the Post.

"A seizure of this much narcotics and three guns is disturbing under any circumstance," New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan told the Post.

"The fact that it was recovered in such a densely populated area, on the same block as a high school…makes it all the more alarming."

The building is close to St. Agnes High School.

Authorities believe that Diaz, who will face charges of intent to distribute, had operated from the apartment for approximately four months, the Post reported.

Operation Bombardier kicked off last week following the murders of a U.S. marshal in West Virginia and an Immigration Customs and Enforcement agent in Mexico.
