UPPER EAST SIDE — Police charged a homeless man with burglary for allegedly breaking in and stealing from the collection plate at an Upper East Side church, the New York Post reported.

Sa-Di Abdul Jaliyi, 57, allegedly climbed up scaffolding in front of the Church of Our Lady of Peace and broke into a second floor window to steal a laptop and $300 from the church's collection plate, the Post reported.

Jaliyi had previously received aid from the Church of Our Lady of Peace on East 62nd Street. Rev. Bartholomew Daly, the pastor at the church, told the paper that he recognized Jaliyi as one of the homeless people that routinely received cash for lunch from the church.
