MIDTOWN — A construction worker was injured working in a tunnel near Grand Central Terminal, fire officials said.

The man was working on the East Side Access tunnel project, fire officials at the scene said. The project will bring Long Island Rail Road service to Grand Central.

The incident took place at roughly 11:18 a.m. below ground at 28 East 48th Street near Park Avenue, the FDNY said.

The worker was driving a payloader used to remove dirt from the tunnel when another vehicle backed into his, FDNY Deputy Chief James Hodgens said at the scene.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and his injuries did not appear serious, fire officials said.
