Fashion Week Already Sewing Up Streets Around Lincoln Center

UPPER WEST SIDE — Designers are still hemming their apparel for this month's Fashion Week, but some streets around Lincoln Center are already snagged.

Fashion Week producer IMG sent a letter telling neighbors to expect traffic snarls from now until Mar. 1, when the style circus packs up and rolls out of town. The event runs Feb. 10-17, but it takes time afterward to break down tents and pack up equipment.

IMG's fleet of cars, trucks, trailers and other equipment moved into the Lincoln Center area on Jan. 20.

IMG security guards will do double duty as doormen for residents of West 62nd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus, which IMG says it will have to "close for safety" from time to time. Residents will arrange deliveries through IMG security guards.

Neighborhood residents and businesses will contend with blocked streets and lost parking on West 62nd Street from Columbus Avenue to Broadway, Columbus Avenue between West 60th and West 64th streets, and Amsterdam Avenue between West 60th and West 64th streets.

Fashion Week is expected to draw up to 100,000 industry insiders and 3,000 members of the media.

IMG says in the letter it hopes its impact on the Lincoln Center neighborhood is "as subtle as possible."

"We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we produce once of New York’s marquee events and an incredibly important component of the city’s second largest industry," the letter reads.
