MANHATTAN — A 9/11 flag that survived the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers will appear in Arizona Thursday at the funeral of Christina Green, a 9-year-old victim of the Tucson massacre, the Arizona Republic reported.

The national 9/11 flag was the largest American flag to survive the collapse of the Twin Towers, and will be brought to Arizona to as a special tribute in honor of the fact that Green was born on Sept. 11, 2001, according to Jeff Parnell of the New York Says Thank You Foundation, which maintains the flag. The flag has been on a tour around the country this year and is will become part of the permanent collection of the September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center.

Parnell said the group decided to offer the flag after hearing Green's mother talk about the young victim's 9/11 birthday in news interviews, according to the paper.

"Christina looked at 9/11 as a holiday...and looked for all the hopeful things that came out of it," Roxanna Green told Fox News Sunday night.

The 20 by 30 foot flag will be transported from NYC to Arizona by New York Firefighter Jimmy Sands, and will be delivered to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, according to the Republic.

The family appreciates the gesture, parish administrator Theresa Bier, 74, told the paper.

"They feel honored to have this because it was special to Christina," Bier said.

Christina Green, the granddaughter of former Yankees and Mets manager Dallas Green, was one of six victims felled when Jared Loughner opened fire in a Tucson grocery store Saturday. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot point blank in the head, but is reportedly expected to survive.

On Tuesday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg responded to the Arizona shooting in New York by renewing his calls for stricter federal laws to keep guns out of the hands of potential killers, DNAinfo reported.
