MANHATTAN — Former East Side congressional candidate Reshma Saujani may have lost to incumbent Rep. Carolyn Maloney during the primary last fall, but the ex-Wall Streeter successfuly launched herself into politics and now has a brand-new, high-profile job within the public advocate's office.

Saujani said in an e-mail to her 2010 campaign supporters Monday that she started the new year as the deputy advocate for special initiatives in Bill de Blasio's office, where she will be the executive director of the Fund for Public Advocacy. A subsidiary of de Blasio's office, the not-profit Fund was formed by former Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum to help subsidize the activities of the PA's office.

"At the Fund, I look forward to developing innovative ideas and tackling the challenges facing New York City and the nation, from increasing economic opportunity to civic engagement," Saujani said.

Saujani, 34, has plenty of practice fundraising after her primary battle against Maloney. Her campaign platform garnered the support of young entrepreneurs like Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. But it also sparked criticisms of her ties to Wall Street firms like Fortress Investment Group.
