MANHATTAN —  Governor David Paterson is without security after requests to continue his protection after finishing his term in office were denied.

Paterson, who is legally blind, has complained about the thought of adjusting to life without the trooper and has even joked about taking classes at Helen Keller Services For the Blind, the New York Daily News reported.

Regardless, officials no longer consider it necessary to employ the tax-funded security detail to accompany him throughout his day.

"He is not going to be assigned a detail perse," state police Lt. Glenn Miner told the News. "We're assessing intelligence on an ongoing basis to see whether security is needed or not needed at any particular time."
