UPPER EAST SIDE — A man is in critical condition after falling under a 6 train at the 59th Street and Lexington Avenue station Thursday afternoon, police said.

A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

It was not clear whether the man had the gun, or whether he was being chased by police before he fell to the tracks.

The incident is still under investigation, police said.

Uptown 6 train was rerouted past the stop after the incident, which occurred just before 2 p.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.

The man was removed from the station by emergency responders on a stretcher.

A witness on Lexington Avenue said that he saw the man had blood on his head as he was carried away by EMTs and that he "looked messed up."

Police cordoned off access to the northbound 6 train at 59th St. and Lexington Avenue.
