MANHATTAN — New Yorkers won't be celebrating a white Christmas this year, but it seems Mother Nature may be kind enough to drop quite a bit of snow on the city Sunday as a belated gift.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Sunday morning to Monday night, anticipating that New York could see 11 to 16 inches of snow accumulate to close out the holiday weekend.

The blizzard warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday, with the heaviest snow coming down late Sunday, the National Weather Service predicted.

The heavy snow and accompanying high winds could create a nightmare for holiday travelers, as whiteout conditions may make visibility on roads impossible, the Weather Service warned.

New Yorkers can anticipate five to 10 inches of snow to hit between Sunday and Monday.
