MANHATTAN — There's SoHo, TriBeCa and WaHi — now a marketing association in lower Manhattan is trying to make CanDo the newest neighborhood acronyn, according to the Daily News.

CanDo, short for Canal Downtown, is the name given to the area south of Canal Street by the Lower Manhattan Marketing Association, the paper reported.

"The hope is to make people realize the area below Canal St. is a vibrant, separate, sustainable community with its own stock of attractions and hotel rooms," Clive Burrow, the group's chairman, told the News.

The new name didn't go over well with everyone, some insisted the area already has a name the Financial District — FiDi for those of you who need a two-syllable ID.

"It seems a bit forced, in my opinion," Madeline Frances, visiting from California, told the paper.

The new name has already appeared on maps in area hotels, the News reported.
