MANHATTAN — The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit Tuesday night, but during the day workers put last minute touches on decorations as tourists milled about taking pictures and "Today Show" anchors Natalie Morales and Al Roker rehearsed for the live event.

On Sixth Avenue, tourist Masdal Jostein was snapping pictures of the lit-up angels leading up to the tree. He said he had seen the view from the top of 30 Rockefeller Center, and planned to come back for the lighting ceremony.

"I live up in the mountains of Norway, there are plenty of those trees," said Jostein, 51. "It's not about the tree, it's the life around it."

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be illuminated as part of a series of Christmas performances Tuesday evening. Tens of thousands of people are expected to flock to Midtown for the event, which could be a soggy celebration.

Forecasters predict showers in Manhattan and don't expect the rain to stop until Wednesday night.

For people who don't want to brave the elements or the hordes, there's a live feed of the tree.

Roughly 30,000 bulbs will light up the tree, which sits in Rockefeller Plaza between West 48th and West 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. At the very top is a Swarovski crystal star.
