MEATPACKING DISTRICT — One Miami tourist had the NYPD on his side when he set up the men who allegedly stole his iPhone on Monday evening, the New York Post reported.

Ted Todoroff, 24, an event planner visiting New York from Florida, was leaving the Meatpacking District bar Brass Monkey when he realized that he had lost his $200 iPhone 3GS, the paper reported.

Todoroff sent a series of text messages from his girlfriend's phone to his iPhone. The messages were answered by William Wilson, 26, and Jeanette Benitez, 20, the Post reported.

The alleged robbers told Todoroff to meet them at a Midtown Subway sandwich shop to exchange the phone for $200 cash, according to the Post.

Todoroff alerted the police of the situation and an undercover cop gave the suspects cash for the phone. As the exchange transpired, the police officer gave a signal to fellow undercover cops and the robbers were apprehended the paper reported.

"I couldn't believe that they took the bait...It was like watching 'CSI: Miami'," Todoroff told the Post.
