LOWER MANHATTAN — Park51 is opening its doors to supporters and critics alike through a series of public information sessions over the next several months.

The Wednesday-night question-and-answer sessions will begin this week and continue in December, said John Lichten, who works for Park51.

"Very early on, there were a number of misconceptions about what we were doing," Lichten said this week. "We’ve been trying to clear them up [and] we want to get what we’re doing out there to the people who need to hear it the most."

Park51 developer Sharif El-Gamal will attend the weekly sessions to describe the project and respond to questions, Lichten said.

Park51 announced the sessions on Twitter this week but has not done broader advertising.

The sessions are limited to a dozen attendees a week, so those who want to go must e-mail info@park51.org in advance.

The sessions will be closed to the press.
