EAST VILLAGE — A new coffee shop on St. Mark's Place will look to take on more than just its caffeinated competitors when it opens on Tuesday.

Workers were busy preparing neighborhood newbie Roastown Coffee over weekend for a Nov. 9 opening, but a look inside revealed the café at the corner of Second Avenue will also offer a host of other dining options, including frozen yogurt, sandwiches and salads.

While Roastown will serve up plenty of java — from coffee to cappuccino and espresso — the Flushing, Queens-based eatery also features an entire station devoted to soft-serve frozen yogurt, as well as a salad and sandwich bar.

Roastown enters a crowded coffee market in the East Village — with local favorite Mud Coffee and mega-chain Starbucks mere blocks away — but it will also be competing with popular nearby frozen yogurt chains Pinkberry and 16 Handles.

Roastown took over the address most recently occupied by a pizzeria, and before that a Gap clothing store that spent more than a decade at the high-traffic corner.
