MANHATTAN — Steady rain and chilly temperatures made for a miserable Thursday in Manhattan.

For many, the dreary weather was a reminder that winter is just around the corner.

"It's cold and wet and nasty, especially compared to last week," Yvonne Smith, 35, said. "It slipped in all of a sudden. We really didn't have too much autumn."

To be sure the city has seen rainy days this season, just none when the temperatures were so cool — highs on Thursday were expected to barely make it into the low 50s, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's really annoying," said NYU student Talak Patel, 19, as he waited in the rain for a bus in Gramercy. "The rain is cold."

New Yorkers who trudged through the dreary conditions on their way to work can expect to be treated to the same on the way home, as the wet weather will stick around through Friday morning, according to meteorologists.

The rain is expected to clear out for the weekend but will be followed up by clear and cold weather with Sunday — and its NYC Marathon — seeing highs only in the upper 40s.

The chilly temperatures are just a taste of the upcoming winter months, as warmer, more seasonable weather will move back in by midweek, forecasters said.
