EAST VILLAGE — A 21-year-old man was found dead with a stab wound to his neck in front of an East Village apartment building early Monday morning, police said.
The body of Christopher Jusko was discovered by police outside of 272 E. 7th St.
East Village neighbor Charles Smith, 41, was out getting his morning coffee around 5:30 a.m. when he saw Jusko stumbling out of the six-story residential building.
"I thought he was drunk until I saw the blood," said Smith. "It's shocking to see someone die."
Smith said police arrived on the scene just minutes after the man collapsed onto the sidewalk.
Third-floor resident John Bonilla, 59, said he saw a bloody trail on the stair case from the second floor and in the hallway of the first floor.
"I thought it was vampire blood with Halloween coming," said Bonilla, who has lived in the building for seven years.
Police arrested a man in connection with the crime, but they have not released his name. Officials have closed East 7th Street between Avenues C and D while they investigate.
In 2008, a resident of 278 E. 7th St. shot two men at a bodega on the corner of 7th Street and Avenue D over an apparent dispute with his neighbor, the Daily News reported.
