LOWER MANHATTAN — A thief who swiped a woman’s wallet on the subway earlier this month got away with $367 in food stamps and a $4 scratch-off lottery ticket, police said.

The 25-year-old victim told police she boarded the 3 train at Saratoga Avenue in Brooklyn about 9 a.m. on Oct. 9 and felt a few people bump into her on the half-hour ride to lower Manhattan.

When she exited the train at Chambers Street, a woman pointed out to the victim that her bag was open, and the victim discovered her wallet had been stolen.

In addition to losing the EBT food stamp card and lottery ticket, the victim lost a $27 MetroCard, credit cards and $20 in cash, police said.

Last week, a Chelsea woman who was walking in the South Street Seaport discovered her backpack was unzipped and her wallet was missing, police said.

The 50-year-old victim told police she had last used her wallet about 5 p.m. on Oct. 16 and noticed two hours later that it was gone.

She lost $200 in cash and found $1,574 in unauthorized charges on her credit card, police said.

Also last week, a 24-year-old Jersey City woman lost her purse and jacket while she was sitting at the bar at Ulysses, at 95 Pearl St., police said.

The victim told police she hung her $100 black leather bag and $178 White House Black Market trench coat on a hook next to her seat about 10 p.m. Oct. 14.

Upon standing up about an hour later, she discovered that the coat and bag, containing credit cards and a $100 engraved silver business card case, were gone, police said.

The thief charged a $53 cab ride to one of the stolen credit cards, police said.

This week, a Queens woman lost her wallet when she accidentally left it on the counter at the Canal Street Post Office.

The 29-year-old victim told police she set her wallet down while dropping off a package at 350 Canal St. about 6 p.m. Oct. 18.

When she returned for the wallet several minutes later, she found it was gone.

The thief used one of her credit cards to withdraw $22.50 in cash and to charge an $8 cab ride, police said.

Also this week, a 20-year-old woman visiting from California lost her purse while trying on shoes at the Camper shoe store at 125 Prince St., police said.

The woman told police she put her purse on a bench at the store about 5:50 p.m. Oct. 18 and noticed about 10 minutes later it was gone.

The victim lost an iPod, a Canon camera, credit cards and $220 in cash.
