MANHATTAN — Roughly a quarter of unlimited MetroCard users aren't getting their money's worth, according to MTA data leaked to transit blogs earlier this week.

The data, taken from October, 2009, shows that approximately 25 percent of people who bought 30-day unlimited MetroCards didn't take enough rides — 40 — to justify the $89 cost, reported Second Avenue Sagas on Thursday.

The information comes as MTA Chairman Jay Walder has been arguing that a proposed 90-ride cap on 30-day unlimited cards would not affect most riders. According to the data, only 7 percent of 30-day cards are used 91 or more times.

Regardless, a fare hike has already been approved for January 2011, which will bring the cost of a montly pass up to $104.
