LOWER MANHATTAN — The German man who recently told interrogators about an al Qaeda plot against Europe’s capitals also has ties to the 9/11 attacks, the Associated Press reported.

Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, 36, who is of Afghan descent, attended the al-Quds mosque, the same Hamburg mosque as several of the World Trade Center attack plotters, the AP said.

The German government shut down the al-Quds mosque in August because of its connections to terrorism.

Siddiqui was also close friends with Mounir el Motassadeq, who attended the al-Quds mosque as well and was convicted in 2006 of helping the 9/11 hijackers, the AP said.

Officials told the AP that Siddiqui demonstrates the close link between German jihadists and al Qaeda’s worldwide network.

The U.S. military captured Siddiqui in Afghanistan this summer, and he recently told interrogators that al Qaeda planned to strike European cities.

In response, the U.S. State Department warned last weekend that Americans should be cautious about traveling to Europe.
