INWOOD — Columbia University’s Lions football team kicked off its 2010 with a valiant loss against the Fordham Rams Saturday, ultimately losing 16-9.
"Defense played well every drive, except for one," head coach Norries Wilson told GoColumbiaLions.com, the school's sports Web site.
"On offense, we had an opportunity to win the game, but we gave that opportunity away."
The northern end of Inwood was festooned with blue and white balloons as football fans swarmed the neighborhood, marking the first of six games currently scheduled to take place in Inwood at the Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
Next up, Columbia plays Towson on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m.
