MANHATTAN — A New Jersey man who was photographed burning a Koran outside the so-called Ground Zero mosque on Saturday's anniversary of 9/11 has been fired from his job at NJ Transit, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

Derek Fenton, 39, of Bloomington, N.J., was outside the site of the proposed Islamic community center when he was photographed ripping pages out of a Koran and setting them ablaze, according to the News.

Now, NJ Transit is giving him the boot after an 11-year career at the train line, the paper reported.

"Mr. Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics," the agency said in a statement given to the News. "NJ Transit concluded that Mr. Fenton violated his trust as a state employee."
