MANHATTAN — Robert Pollard is known as frontman of the seminal ’90s indie-rock band Guided by Voices and founding father of the lo-fi movement. This Friday, the Ohio-native can add visual artist to the list.

Friday's art opening, called "The Public Hi-Fi Balloon" (at the 45 Space located at 45 Bond St. between Lafayette and Broadway), will feature more than 60 imaginary record sleeves created by Pollard.

"Imagine Bob's songs on paper and you'll get the idea of how amazing these works are," said Vanity Fair executive onine editor Michael Hogan, who is co-hosting the opening with the artist Todd DiCiurcio.

"It’s all there: the ’60s mania, the cut-and-paste originality, and of course the titles. I mean, the show’s worth seeing for the titles alone."

"Moon Dive," "Pimple Zoo" and "The Dirt Worshippers" are just a few examples of artworks Pollard will show Friday night, which could very easily act as alternative cover art and album titles for past GBV releases.

The show comes just weeks after Pollard announced that the original GBV lineup would be reuniting for a fall tour.

The opening of "The Public Hi-Fi Balloon" is this Friday, Aug. 27, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The exhibit will also be open to visitors on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
